　Taiwan needs advanced arms to defend itself against the
military threat from mainland China, and the United States
is obligated（義務）by law to provide this country with
those weapons. Because of Beijing's recent saber-rattling,
（武力恐嚇）Taiwan is eager to acquire new arms from the
U.S.,and this has put the Clinton administration（柯林頓政
府）in a bind.（陷入困境）
Taiwan's "shopping list" includes four destroyers equipped
with Aegis air defense radar.（雷達） This would greatly add
to Taiwan's defensive as well as offensive capability.
Beijing has warned Washington against the sale, saying it
violates a 1982 U.S.-PRC agreement that limits arms sales
to Taiwan.
Are weapons making Taiwan safer? Is the arms race with the
mainland　in Taiwan's best interests?（台灣的最大利益）
According to a well-known economist, it would be better
for Taiwan to build mutual（相互的）trust with the mainland
than engage in an arms race, which would only increase the
danger of war. Many U.S. officials also argue that "neither
the Aegis system nor other sophisticated weapons can buy
Taiwan real security." They believe that Taiwan's real
security depends on cross-strait negotiations and American
support.
A U.S. military analyst said recently that if Washington
decided to　sell Aegis destroyers to Taiwan, "it would be the
beginning of the problem, not an end to it." He was afraid
that the mainland might destroy the Aegis warships on their
way to Taiwan. That's really a frightening scenario.（局面）
Nobody wants to see such a scenario occur. President
Clinton has told the mainland that the Taiwan issue must be
resolved peacefully and "with the consent（同意）of the
people of Taiwan." All of Taiwan's major presidential
candidates（總統候選人）are in favor of（贊成）resuming（
重新）cross-strait negotiations（兩岸會談） after the
election. Beijing, too, appears to be losing patience with
delays.
Taiwan's security rests with the peaceful settlement（決
定） of its differences with the mainland through
negotiations. Confrontation（對質）and an arms race will
only lead to disaster.

但心底有著不變的最原始的渴求，就如童年時渴望一支棒棒糖那樣
的單純快樂。在終極追殺令當中殺手喜愛植物，細心呵護它，每天
不忘將它放在陽台接受陽光的滋潤。
　　他也喜歡看電影，獨自陶醉在開心逗趣的場景裡，望著螢幕痴
痴地笑。雖然他來回於子彈之間，涉足於血流中，但內心底渴求的
單純快樂卻從不曾消失。
　　他只知道殺手的世界，只遵循殺手的規矩，人生裡他不知道為
甚麼而活，直到遇見了女孩，一個原本應沐浴在父母手足愛中的12
歲女孩，卻是每日處在暴力淫亂的環境中，那樣的背景讓她的眼神
流露出對生命絕望的無奈感，但心中最原始的愛從不曾離開她的身
體，為了四歲的弟弟，她要報仇。殺手從今以後知道他是為了女孩
而活。殺手畢竟敵不過殺手規則，對人性產生了憐憫。但他找到了
一生中的珍寶，彷如一盞明燈為他黑白的世界增添了光彩。女孩讓
他無所畏懼地面對挑戰，讓他在原本漂泊不定的人生找到了根。
　　劇情安排殺手與女孩各自處在自己認為毫無意義卻身不由己的
環境中，卻不斷追尋內心渴望的真誠的愛。在忙碌的生活裡，你是
否已疲於緊湊的工作跟瑣事，何不找個時間靜下來想想你為了甚麼
而活？你是否找到心底最真的呼喚？
